Despite the best efforts of the staff at the specialist hospital, dear sweet Duke lost his struggle for life. He will be sorely missed by all those who work at the shelter and many of our shelter visitors.

We are holding a special Christmas campaign to raise funds to help us pay for Duke's veterinary care. To donate, please visit the Special fund for Duke on our Strays in need page http://www.saveourstrays.org.au/apps/donations/

If you have any anecdotes about this special boy that you would like to share, please free free to leave a comment here or on our facebook account at http://www.facebook.com/sos.saveourstrays

She is delighted when any attention is paid to her and adores people. She is an active little dog and will require regular exercise to keep her trim and terrific.

See more photos of Peggy

View her Petrescue profile at: http://www.petrescue.com.au/view/127536

If you are interested in adopting this sweetheart, please fill in our adoption enquiry form

Milly and Barney

Update from Milly & Barney in foster care...

"Milly and Barney are a sweet couple who were saved from euthanaisa by Save Our Strays. We have been fostering them since late August. Their personalities and little quirks have endeared them to us. If it weren’t for our future plans, they would have a permanent home with us.

Within a week of having Milly and Barney they were walking with us off lead. They never wander and are good when being called. As long as they are close to you, they are content. Although they are different both physically and in personality.

Milly is a sweet old lady who has a little pot belly and has cute small stumpy tail. She enjoys nothing more than sitting with you. On the bed, on the lounge or in her own bed on the floor next to you.

She has arthritic hips and elbows and is receiving injections of cartrofen once a month to help give her more ease with mobility. However more often than not, you wouldn’t know she has bad joints. The vets are amazed at how well she does.

Milly can’t keep up with Barney on our walks, but is happy to dawdle at the back of the pack with our other dog Molly. If we’re walking further than she can handle, she and Molly enjoy the rest of the trip in style in their pet pram.

Milly is completely house trained. She usually sleeps through the night but if she can’t hold on until morning she will wake you up. Not one accident inside for this little miss!

Milly has Cushing’s disease (hyperadrenocorticism) which is currently being treated at The Small Animal Specialist Hospital. After have a thorough medical work up, she is now very happy and doing well on only three pills a week.

Barney may be 11 years old but you would never believe it. He is happy, happy, happy! If you’re up and about he will be on the go looking for things to do and explore. If you’re having a lazy day, Barney will be a vegetable with you. I’ve never met a dog who enjoys being active as much as he does doing nothing. Whatever mood you’re in, he’ll match it. Watch TV or go for a 2 hour walk.

It took Barney a few days to figure out how to use the doggie door, but once he did, he started going through it just to show off since it meant he got so much attention! Now when I leave for work, Barney uses the doggie door on verandah on the top level to wave me off.

He’d be great with a family or an older person. He really is a versatile little man.

They both love to go in the car and travel really well. Each time they go for a walk they head towards the car just in case they can convince us to go for a drive instead.

They both love being outside and can often be found lying in the sun.

They are both good for their baths and grooming. Barney can’t wait to run around the place being crazy while Milly is happy to sit calmly and enjoy the massage that comes from a good brush.

They generally only bark at the doorbell, but as soon as they see a friendly face they’re quick to stop.

They are keen to meet other dogs but once the excitement phase is over, Milly’s not interested in playing. Barney however loves chasing and being chased.

If you were to give Milly and Barney their forever home, I have no doubt that they will enrich your life the way they have ours…"

View more photos of Milly and Barney

If you are interested in adopting Milly and Barney, please fill in our adoption enquiry form.

You can also help us meet the cost of Milly's treatment by donating towards Milly's fund.

At home with... Thomas

Inka & Thomas

Hello dear friends,

I just wanted to let you know that although I miss you guys very much and think of you and my time in the kennels very often I really love my new home and am more than happy that all of you did so much to make my dream come true!

I am very proud to tell you that I learn quiet quickly and can already do things like "sit", "lay down", "come here", "go to your bed" or "jump on that trunk" if we're in the forest and as I get delicious treats for practising I really love it. Fiete and me become better friends every day and play a lot -as Julle and Inka use to say we've just to figure out how to play outside so we don't bother the neighbours, but to be honest I don't really understand that- as I've already lost a bit weight I feel light as a feather and can't imagine the neighbours realising me running around with my friend Fiete...

There are a few photos attached, not really good ones but at least they state I'm enjoying life and having fun :o)

Heaps of doggy kisses for you my dearest

Thomas

PS: Julle, Inka & Fiete say hello to you, too.
