Save Our Strays rescues all types of cats and dogs, including some that are in need of medical attention outside of desexing, parasite control and microchipping. These added veterinary costs for surgeries and treatments can be quite high even though we get discounts from our wonderful Vets.
All money raised will go to the veterinary costs and ongoing medical treatment of the rescued dogs in our care and will help us to rescue more dogs in need.
You can help Save Our Strays by donating to our general veterinary fund or towards one of our strays in need.
All donations to Save Our Strays over $2 are tax deductible.
Blue was abandoned at the pound. How could anyone leave such a sweet, old boy to perish at the pound. Blue was in poor condition when he arrived. His gums and ears were infected. Blue had a major dental and his ears were also flushed. He is now on antibiotics.
This sweet old boy is now feeling much betterand looking forward to finding a loving and caring home.
Blue's vet bill is $700.00. We are very gradeful for any donations towards his vet account.

Toby found himself abandoned at the pound. Save Our Strays pulled him out of the pound and straight to the vet as he had a hernia. The hernia has been removed and Toby has a clean bill of health. He is only a young dog, full of energy ready to start a new life.
Toby's surgery cost was $450.00.
You can help Toby by donating towards the cost of his surgery.

Dudley and Delta are a devoted pair of little dogs. This loving pair was left at the pound to perish. Save Our Strays rescued these two little dogs. However, shortly after arriving at the shelter Dudley and Delta developed a very severe case of kennel cough. They were so ill that they needed to be hospitalised. They have stayed at the vets for several days receving hydration therapy and medication.
Dudley and Delta have pulled though this ordeal and are now looking for a loving home. Please help Save Our Strays by donating to their veterinary costs. Dundley's care was $850.00 and Delta's was $725.00.

Update on Lola's condition
Lola does have Cushing's disease as was initally suspected. Consequently she will need lifelong oral medication. In order to prevent the reoccurence of Cushings, she will also need to be monitored and have regular specialised blood tests. She is on Trilostane (10mg).
Lola is still in the early stages of treatment. The dosage and frequency of administration may need to be adjusted during this initial treatment period.
We havebeen raising funds for the diagnosis. The initial blood test for the diagnosis was $250.00. Currently we are raising funds for the treatment. Cushings disease requires very specialised and lifelong tests. The regular blood tests cost $185.00 and also require a drug called Synacthen which costs $135.00 and can be used for up to 3 tests. The cost of Trilostane is $190.00 for a 100ml bottle.
You can help Lola by donating to her fund.
This a photo of Lola at her carer's.

This is Lola. She was picked up wandering the streets and was dropped off at the pound. She is an older girl over 8 years.
Lola is not well. She has thinning fur, bad knees but very worring is her very swollen abdomen. Due to her poor condition is she has been released to Save Our Strays under a Duty of Care.
She went straight to the vet to investigate her condition. So far she has had ultrasounds of her abdomen, which have not been conclusive. She has been staying at the vets as she also had to have hydration therapy. Lola is having addition blood work for suspected Cushings disease and will have the results reviewed tomorrow (Tuesday 8 May).
Cushing's disease is the production of too much adrenal hormone, in particular corticosteroids. Cushing's disease causes increased drinking, increased urination, increased appetite, panting, high blood pressure, hair loss, a "pot belly" swollen abdomen, thinning of the skin, calcified lumps in the skin, susceptibility to skin infections and diabetes, weakening of the heart and skeletal muscles, nervous system disease and more. At this time Lola is not showing increased drinking or urination however she does exhibit most of the other signs.
We have increased the goal again by $200 to keep Lola's fund live while she is being diagnosed and a treatment plan formulated.

You can help us help little Lola by donating towards her veterinary costs. We will continue to adjust the fundraising goal as her diagnosis and treatment progress.
Sophia was severely emaciated due to malnourishment upon arrival at the pound. As she was in such a poor condition, Sophia soon became ill with cat flu.

We rescued her and took her to our vet. She was put on a drip to hydrate her and given suitable medication. She was cared for at the veterinary hospital and is now recuperating with a foster carer and will be available for adoption in the next few week.

We are very grateful for any donations towards her vet account. All donations over $2 are tax deductible.
Despite the best efforts of the staff at the specialist hospital, dear sweet Duke lost his struggle for life. He will be sorely missed by all those who work at the shelter and many of our shelter visitors.

This is a special memorial campaign to help us raise funds to pay for specialist veterinary care.
Previous donations from Pledgie have been added here and any general donation made and intended for Duke, will be added here also.
This is Milly. She is around 11 years old . Millly was left in the pound with her buddy Barney, who is also a senior dog.
Unfortunately Milly has been diagnosed with Cushings disease. This condition results when the body produces too much of a hormone called cortisol. Too much cortisol weakens the immune system, leaving the body vulnerable to other diseases and infections.
Milly has undergone numerous diagnostics procedures including: blood screening, ultrasound and x-rays. To manage the disease Milly has been placed on medications. In most cases Cushings disease is not something that can be cured, however with proper care and treatment it can be managed. Milly will have to be monitored for the rest of her life and her medications balanced accordingly.
We are raisning funds to cover the costs of the medical procedures and medicines that Milly is currently on. We have already spent over $900 however her full treatment will be more expensive so we are trying raise at least $1200 towards the costs at this time. Please help us to help this little girl.
Barney and Milly
